Root Behind the Scenes with Nicole Gulick, Operations Manager

She’s our passionate Operations Manager, supervising everything from makeup consultations to shipment processes, a loving mother and wife, and hands down one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. She’s NICOLE GULICK, Operations Manager at Root.

Nicole, like Krista, just had her baby too - little Theo! Even so, she was able to take time out of her busy mom schedule and have a conversation with me about her background, role at Root and love for this company. There’s something about these Root women; they’re dedicated and PASSIONATE about what they do!

Nicole’s Key Ingredients

Family?  I have a wonderful husband Levi, a set of twins who are 2 ½ (Lennon and Leyton), and Theo who is 4 weeks old!

Hometown? Calmar, Iowa

Fun Fact? I’m a Licensed Massage Therapist and Esthetician

Favorite Root Product? Oh goodness this is a hard one, because I have a lot of favorites! But, I would say my all time favorite is Hello Pretty Under Eye Brightener.

Favorite Pretty Balm Shade? Mila!!

Biggest Mentor? I would say one of my biggest mentors would be my Aunt Kim. She has a sweet zest for life, a strong faith, a solid marriage, gives great advice and raised 2 amazing boys!

Favorite Food? Protein balls and Sushi - not together of course ;)

Q: What do you LOVE about your job at Root?

A: I absolutely love the mission behind Root and what we stand for. I love knowing that every product I bring home will be safe for my entire family, even little baby Theo! All of my coworkers are so great, and I love coming to work every day. They’ve really become my apart of the family, and they all put so much love into each and every product, customer interaction and order that goes out! Plus, Root products perform so well. I’m able to put all my heart and confidence into the products we sell and believe in them 100%.

Q: What does a typical day as the Root Operations Manager look like?

A: I’m in charge of all the shipping processes and making sure our team fulfills orders within a timely manner, as well as manage the daily operations of the Waverly and Cedar Falls stores. Each day you can find me working on wholesale accounts and their orders, reordering supplies needed for the store operations, filing payroll and assigning tasks to our Beauty Assistants. In addition to that, I also have the chance to interact with customers on a daily basis, whether it be in store, full consultations or questions online or over the phone. It really is a great mix that keeps me on my toes!

Q: What strengths do you have that you bring to the Root team?

A: Number one, kindness. I have such a large heart, and I feel like I’m able to spread that kindness to not only my coworkers, but to customers in store, online and over the phone. Also, having been at Root the longest after Krista, I have so much knowledge about our product lines and our ingredients, so I’m able to mentor our Beauty Assistants as well as assist customers to my very best ability each day. I love being in my leadership role at Root because it gives me the opportunity to share my passion, while inspiring our staff and customers to believe in Root’s mission alongside Krista and myself.

Q: Tell me about your favorite Root memory:

A: I still remember the first time I met Krista, and then months later she asked me to come work for her part time at Root. There were Saturdays in our old location where there would be lines of people waiting to get into Root. Those are some of my favorite memories because I have gotten to be a part of Root’s growth each and every day up to today. Looking back on those moments makes me truly appreciate this amazing ride.

“I have loved being apart of this tremendous journey. I couldn’t ask for a better job.”
- Nicole Gulick, Operations Manager
