Mastering the No-Makeup Makeup Look

by Haylee Westendorf on September 06, 2018

Mastering the No-Makeup Makeup LookIsn’t it funny that mastering the no-makeup look actually calls for a bit of makeup? Sometimes you just want a bit of help to pull it off, and that’s totally okay! The steps are simple - hydrate, color correct, highlight in all the right places, add some warmth, subtly define your eyes, lengthen your lashes and finish with a nude lip. Seem intense? Don’t worry, we’ve compiled a list of products that check more than one of these off the list at a time. Everyone loves a product that can pull double duty!

The Essentials

The Essentials

Pretty Booster Liquid Minerals

Pretty Booster provides just the right amount of coverage, plus hydration and oil control. Looking for a bit more coverage?

No problem, just apply another layer of Pretty Booster. Pretty Booster works to even out your skin tone, fight signs of aging, and acts as a natural SPF, too! For best results, a damp Pretty Blender, or my personal favorite - our #70 Airbrush Foundation Kabuki.

Katherine is wearing the shade Medium Golden. Not sure which Pretty Booster is right for you? Send a photo of yourself in natural light to and we’ll color match you!

Rose Glow Illuminator

Rose Glow Illuminator is the perfect pick for a no-makeup makeup look because it’s both highlighting and warming.

Dust across your cheek bones and under your brow bone with Root #20 Set & Illuminate Brush. If you’re looking for a bit more warmth, apply a bit to your cheeks as a light blush.

Natural Brow Powder

Another product that can do it all! Natural Brow Powder is the perfect product to subtly define your eyes and wake you up!

Apply a smokey line of the Natural Brow Powder with Root #8 Angled Brow & Liner Brush across your top lash line. Add just a dash to your bottom line. Finish by lightly filling in your brows.

Katherine is wearing the shade Deep Brown.

100% Lash Mascara

Glide 1 coat of 100% Lash Mascara onto your lashes.

Hallie Pretty Balm

Opt for a neutral shade to finish off your pout. Hallie Pretty Balm is the perfect light neutral that goes to work moisturizing your lips.

Plus, Pretty Balm is super easy to apply - a quick swipe to the lips, and you’re out the door!

The trick to 100% mastery of no-makeup makeup is starting with a great base. Smooth and brighten your complexion with a gentle exfoliant like a Sugar Cookie Body Polish, tone daily, and don’t forget to moisturize! Even if you have oily skin, a moisturizer like the Root Fresh Face Moisturizer or Root Beauty Sleep Perfecting Serum have ingredients specifically added to balance oil production!
