Mica. Iron Oxide. Titanium Dioxide. Zinc Oxide. Carnauba Wax. That’s it. These crazy names may sound intimidating, so let’s break them down. They’re 100% natural and non-toxic, and we know your skin will love them.
Iron Oxides - These create the gorgeous pigments that make up the eyeshadows and blend flawlessly.
Titanium Dioxide - This is a natural occurring mineral which acts as a colorant, and is also a natural SPF which deflects UV light and protects skin.
Mica - This provides the pretty shimmer found in most of Root’s loose eyeshadows.
Zinc Oxide - This mineral is used to naturally thicken our eyeshadows as well as heal irritations and blemishes, reduce signs of aging and serve as another natural SPF.
Carnauba Wax - This holds our loose mineral eyeshadows together and gives them a silky, smooth texture which makes applying them, especially as an eyeliner, super easy!
Perhaps my FAVORITE loose mineral eyeshadow technique is “foiling.” Try mixing a small amount of water with a few taps of your eyeshadow into the lid. Apply with your finger or a flat brush like Root #12 Small Detail Brush. You’ll have a vibrant, metallic shadow that lasts all day and night. I love using this technique for inner corners and as eyeliner.
With over 40 shades, creating a quick and simple smokey eye has never been easier. Loose mineral eyeshadows blend flawlessly, especially with Root #14 Fluffy Flat Eyeshadow Brush. Check out our tutorial and try it yourself. Tag your looks with #RootSmokeyEyeTutorial for a chance to be featured!
Now this is where it gets fun! If you LOVE to DIY (me!), this one’s for you! Try mixing a small amount of your loose mineral eyeshadow with Root Clear Pretty Gloss. Mix and match colors to get a lippie shade that is 100% your own! If you try this one out, tag posts with #rootcustomcolor Who knows, maybe you’ll create the next Pretty Gloss! ;)

I highly recommend using Tan Rose all over the lid, So Bronze in the crease, and our White Gold Illuminator as a eyebrow highlight! This will give you a neutral everyday look. :)
